IMPORTANT DATES:

NOMINATION PERIOD:  Friday, May 1, 2026 to Friday, August 21, 2026

NOMINATION DAY:  Friday, August 21, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

ELECTION DAY:  Monday, October 26, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

WHO CAN RUN?

Eligible candidates for municipal elections must be:

• A Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old 
• A resident of the municipality, a non-resident owner or tenant of land in the municipality or the spouse of such non-resident owner or tenant
• Not legally prohibited from voting; and not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office. 

HOW TO FILE YOUR NOMINATION:

• In order to be considered for declaration as a legally qualified municipal candidate, you must file a Nomination Form with the Clerk.
• Deadline:  Friday August 21, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.  Late nominations will not be accepted.
• On any day preceding Nomination Day, Nomination papers may be filed at the Clerk’s Office:

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Appointments on Tuesdays or Thursdays may be scheduled by written request to the Clerk, subject to availability and approval.

• On Nomination Day (August21, 2026), papers may be filed between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
• Either the candidate or his/her agent must file the Nomination papers in person.  Faxed/emailed nominations WILL NOT be accepted as an original signature is required on all election documents filed with the Clerk.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW:

All registered candidates are required to pay a filing fee of either:

• $200 for Head of Council
• $100 for Councillor or School Board Trustee

Payable by cash, debit, certified cheque, EFT or money order payable to the Township of Jocelyn.  Proof of identification required (valid and not expired)

Persons who propose to be candidates must submit their Nomination papers to the Office of the Clerk prior to accepting or soliciting funds for their campaign.

The election campaign period for candidates begins the day the Nomination paper is filed and ends on December 31, 2026.  A candidate cannot accept campaign contributions before he/she has filed a Nomination paper.
