We encourage you to confirm that you are on the Voters List as soon as possible. Being on the list will make your voting experience easier, and help you avoid a trip to the municipal office to be added closer to the election.
If you are a resident, owner or tenant of property in Ontario, a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old and not legally prohibited from voting, you can vote in Ontario’s municipal and school board elections.

As a property owner, you are required to support a school system even if you do not have children or your children are not currently attending school. The school board you support dictates for which school board trustees you are eligible to vote.
The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is responsible for maintaining information on the school support associated with your property.
2026 VOTING METHODS
The 2026 Municipal Election shall be conducted using in-person paper ballot voting, with provisions for advance voting and restricted mail-in voting.
MAIL-IN VOTING
Mail-in voting shall be available only to eligible electors who reside outside of St. Joseph Island. Valid Government Issued ID that confirms that the individual(s) do not live on St. Joseph Island must be provided to qualify for Mail-in voting.
Eligible Electors (as per the Municipal Elections Act, S.O. 1996, as amended) must register in advance with the Township office no later than August 31, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. EST. (the “Deadline”) to receive a mail-in voting kit. Any registrations that are received after the Deadline will be automatically rejected and will be required to vote on Election Day or at the Advance Poll.

The elector may request assistance from the Township.
Upon request and verification, appointed Township/ Election staff shall attend the elector’s residence with a ballot box to facilitate voting.
Arrangements must be made in advance with the Township Office.
Voting shall take place on Monday, October 26, 2026.
ADVANCE VOTING
An advance poll shall be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026
On Election Day, the Clerk will declare the unofficial results. Results will be shared on the Municipal website as soon as possible once the voting period closes.
