BURN SEASON IS HERE. TIME TO RENEW YOUR FIRE PERMIT!

Here’s some background information:

– The Fire permit is a legal document that allows you to burn at a specific time and location.

 – It is required between April 1st and October 31st and must be renewed (at no cost) annually.

 – By getting a fire permit, you are taking responsibility for conducting a burn safely.

 – You must follow the rules on the burn permit and have the fire fighting equipment specified on hand (typically a shovel/rake/garden hose, etc. See the permit for specifics).

👉 For fires other than a campfire, a fire permit is required.

What qualifies as a campfire?

A campfire is a small, controlled, outdoor fire used for warmth, cooking, or casual socializing and is typically contained within a fire ring or pit.

It is not a bonfire (which is intentionally large, meant to be visible at a distance, and usually associated with public events) and it is not a controlled burn (which is done for wood debris or vegetation disposal). If your fire is bigger than a campfire, you need a permit.

Please be considerate with your burns. Here are some basic guidelines:

✅ Conduct a burn only when the winds are low and are blowing away from structures or flammable materials.

✅ Make sure smoke isn’t going to be an annoyance for your neighbours.

✅ Please follow the “Don’t Scare Your Neighbours” principle – keep the burns to a reasonable size and well controlled so we don’t get needless 911 calls.
